Once upon a time in the state capitol city of Sacramento the sidewalks rolled up at 9pm.  Even finding a place for a good late night supper was tough.  But now, thanks to the focused efforts of nightclub kahuna Bob Simpson the once sleepy Sacramento has a big, rich and lively night life.  Vanguard, Barwest, Social, Assembly, Tropicana, Pour House and Republic are all clubs Simpson has put on our city map specifically intended to entertain us.  Simpson began his career as a bouncer in the 80‘s and liked the interaction with people and the industry so much that when an opportunity arrived to have his own club he jumped on it.  In 1990 Simpson began creating clubs here in Sacramento where the nightlife market hadn’t been developed and was ripe for a burgeoning night life.

Simpson is a savvy businessman with a long term perseverance, a strong attitude and a keen eye always watching the marketplace, re-concepting as the market changes and focused on providing a good experience for all.

We asked Bob a few questions…

What are the 3 important things you would include in your things-still-to-do list?  I would love to take my family to Europe.  I would like to have a month straight w no work or business dealings.   Live in several different cities for 3 months at a time moving from place to place w my wife. ( in retirement of course)

What is the one thing that you love the most about yourself?  Fighting spirit w compassionate heart.

What moves you and or touches you about your community?  It’s commitment to a greener world.

What are you most proud of?  My 2 children.

What gets you up in the morning?  Coffee and what the day has in store.

If you have a completely free day what would you CHOOSE to do with it?  Gym, surf, and golf in Mexico.

What are you most passionate about?  Being a good husband and dad.

Do you have a childhood memory when you knew the essence of who you’d grow up to be?  No one event just the support and confidence given by an incredible mom.

Are you surprised because your career is a happy accident or are you delighted because it’s what you always wanted?  A little bit of both.

Bob writes a haiku:

Loving all people

for who they are in the world

makes me feel happy
